Peter Ohtaki was elected to the Menlo Park City Council in November 2010, and was selected by the Council as Mayor for 2013. Previously, he was elected to the Board of Directors for the Menlo Park Fire Protection District in 2007, and served on the Board of the Mid-Peninsula Water District.
Peter is Executive Director of the California Resiliency Alliance (CRA), a non-profit organization that brings businesses and government together in a public-private partnership to improve disaster resiliency. The California Emergency Management Agency recognized the partnership’s leadership in coordinating business response during the 2007 Southern California wildfires. The California Emergency Services Association recognized the partnership “for exceptional efforts in support of emergency management and preparedness”.
Prior to starting the CRA in 2005, Peter was Chief Financial Officer and co-founder of a technology company in the education and interactive media markets. He worked in corporate finance at Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch, and C.E. Unterberg Towbin, where he financed technology companies. At Morgan Stanley, Peter helped take Cisco Systems public in 1990.
Peter grew up in Menlo Park, and graduated with a B.A. in Economics, magna cum laude, from Harvard University and an M.B.A. from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business. Peter and his wife have three children.
