Laura Martinez

Mayor, City of East Palo Alto

Laura has served on the East Palo Alto City Council for four years and was re-elected in November 2012 for another four-year term.  She was born and raised in East Palo Alto and has lived there for 28 years.  She holds a B.A. from Whittier College.  Laura has a 10+ year career working with East Palo Alto youth and families and currently works for Aspire Public Schools.  She was selected by Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal as one of the top 100 Women of Influence for 2012.  Laura is the youngest council member to be elected to the East Palo Alto City Council and was one of the youngest Mayors in the country in 2012, during her term as Mayor of East Palo Alto.  She was also the first Latina Mayor to serve East Palo Alto's City Council.

Laura serves on the board of East Palo Alto Police Activities League, San Mateo County Library Joint Powers Association, San Mateo County Emergency Services Council and East Palo Alto Health and Safety Roundtable.
